Job Description:

The Systems Analyst is responsible for all aspects of Health Information Technology (HIT) support for Rush Health, a clinically integrated network of physicians and hospitals working together to improve health through high quality, efficient health services covering the spectrum of patient care from wellness, prevention and health promotion, to disease management and complex care management. Our network includes Rush University Medical Center, Rush Oak Park Hospital, Rush Copley Medical Center, Riverside Medical Center, and over 1000 physician members and 250 non-physician network clinicians.

Position Highlights:

  • This job includes supporting desktops, hardware/servers, networks and software; assisting in data management functions within the department; developing and overseeing HIT security; and assisting in long-range planning/development of HIT for the department.

  • The Systems Analyst will work closely with the Senior Director to ensure proper support levels are upheld and the standard of support is at a premium.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Must be customer-focused and interact effectively and efficiently with a variety of staff and contacts: Rush Health staff, physicians, vendors, IS department and other departments.

  • Desktop Support:

  • Interact with users effectively and appropriately to identify and correct problems in a timely manner.

  • Track problems and identify system-wide problems or issues as they arise. Take action to systematically correct department-wide desktop issues.

  • Maintain desktop updates and upgrades and coordinate with users to keep downtime to a minimum.

  • Hardware / Server Support:

  • Select, price, and install hardware, including PCs, printers, smartphones, laptops, and servers.

  • Diagnose hardware problems and take corrective actions in a timely manner.

  • Oversee server and other equipment support provided by outside vendors and/or providers.

  • Ensure that service is provided by outside vendors according to agreed-upon standards.

  • Ensure that all server back-ups are occurring according to agreed-upon standards.

  • Track server problems and work on resolution.

  • Assist in developing long-range plans for the server and hardware environment, including researching options, developing cost estimates, analyzing options and contingency planning.

  • Carry out new server and/or hardware implementations which may arise, which may include: PC leasing program, building/setup/configuration of file/ print servers, maintaining user accounts, backup of server data.

  • Network Support

  • Coordinate all aspects of network infrastructure, including planning and maintaining department networks.

  • Coordinate with IS department and outside vendors as needed.

  • Diagnose network problems and take corrective action in a timely manner.

  • Software Support:

  • Select and install software as needed to support department functions, including MS Office, anti-virus, etc.

  • Diagnose software problems and take corrective action in a timely manner.

  • Create scripts and simple applications as necessary.

  • Data Management

  • Define, implement and maintain Databases using Access, SQL and other programs.

  • Assist in developing web-based tools to gather and manage data.

  • Interrelate data from diverse databases mathematically and statistically.

  • Develop necessary programs to allow staff to access data from various systems.

  • Security and Data Access

  • Ensure overall security of the department systems. This includes ensuring physical security, HIPAA compliance, as well as management of anti-virus and anti-Spyware programs and regular testing.

  • Set up, organize and manage internal user access to various shared drives and applications.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a department IT disaster plan.

  • Develop and maintain inventory of department IT assets and work closely with Department financial staff to track purchases.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures as necessary to support the overall Department IT services

  • Assist in the long range planning and organization of information systems in the department.

  • Train physicians and administrative staff as needed in the use of computers software and hardware.

  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications Include:

  • 3 years work experience in technology, with at least PC support experience.

  • BS degree in Computer Science/Information Technology, or equivalent. Someone with equivalent work experience will be considered.

  • Preference for someone who has worked in a healthcare information technology setting.

  • Must have a strong customer service orientation and good organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Creative problem-solver.

  • -depth knowledge of: computer hardware, servers and software; Windows 7 desktop systems.

  • Working knowledge of relational and object-oriented databases, PowerShell, SharePoint, C#, Visual Basic, ASP, .NET, SQL, Windows, and Linux based systems.

  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
