We are seeking a dynamic Patient Flow Coordinator to join our Patient Transport Department at Rush University Medical Center! The desired candidate will have the ability to multitask effectively.

This is a Full Time position

80 hours every two weeks, benefit-eligible

Night Shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM

Rotating Weekends and Holidays

Position Highlights:

The Patient Flow Coordinator is responsible for the effective daily coordination and monitoring of Patient Transportation, Environmental and Linen services activities through timely and accurate dispatch and management of customer requests and efficient assignments of appropriate personnel. Position Responsibilities:

Customer Relations

  • Resolves problems related to patient, visitor, staff, or employee complaints; resolves problems associated with departmental issues; recommends and participates in the solution of ongoing problems or trends

  • Assists in obtaining statistical information for administrative, operational and regulatory purposes.

  • Ensures timely response to all departmental requests according to budgetary guidelines.

  • Continuously monitors response times and associate productivity.

  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies including but not limited to Federal, State, JCAHO, OSHA, and CDC.

  • Maintains a teamwork environment of highly motivated associates.

People Management

  • Assists in orienting, training, and developing all levels of personnel

  • Motivates staff to function as a team in achieving goals and maximum productivity.

  • Encourages and nurtures associate morale within the RUSH ICARE Program.

  • Monitors associates’ productivity status in accordance with departmental quality standards and ensures that they are consistently achieved; interacts daily with nursing and other support departments; ensures the delivery of quality and timely service to patients, physicians, visitors and staff

  • Adheres to and promotes associates’ compliance to standard universal and disease-specific precautions and the OSHA blood borne pathogen standard; work to comply with all federal and state regulatory agencies.

Administration

  • Understands and is able to determine, explain and develop dispatcher logic and employee activities

  • Demonstrates personal computer literacy and basic knowledge of Microsoft office.

  • Ensures proper operation of Tele-Tracking hardware, software programs, page and phone handling systems; is able to troubleshoot and work with Information Systems

  • Directs the activity of the frontline staff, ensuring timely completion of tasks; monitors procedures related to availability and completion task, follows-up on issues related to service and operations.

  • Ensures requests have been completed in an efficient and timely manner according to current departmental standards, priorities and patient appointments.

  • Prints reports when requested. Functions as a liaison between PT, EVS and Linen and other departments. Records all non-operational actions in “Daily Shift Log.”

  • Assigns, collects, and/or distributes pagers; monitors daily sign-in/out procedures.

  • Troubleshoots technological situations such as phone handling, pager handling, etc

Other Responsibilities

  • Assists in achieving financial objectives; controls expenses within area of responsibility.

  • Assists in analyzing workload trends and staffing levels; makes recommendations when appropriate.

  • Monitors supplies and equipment; makes purchases recommendations when necessary.

Position Qualifications Include :

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High school diploma/GED required.

  • Effective organizational skills necessary to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the activities of transport requests and associates’ productivity. Service/quality mentality and attitude.

  • Analytical ability to constantly evaluate task and personnel status; interpret demand and response times in accordance with patient acuity and personnel availability.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interact, motivate, and communicate with a wide range of staff and hospital personnel in a professional manner; guest relation’s skills must be strong, genuine and noticeable.

  • Physical ability to withstand frequent to prolonged sitting or walking if performing transport functions.

  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills.
