Clinical Research Assistant – Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center
The Rush University Alzheimer's Disease Center (RADC) is leading experimental and epidemiological center for the study of Alzheimer’s disease, which has no preventative drugs, and is expected to soon triple in incidence. Over the past decade, the RADC has carried out numerous community-based cohort studies to better understand Alzheimer’s disease and aging, generating many omic data sets from human samples.
The Clinical Research Assistant will assist the Principal Investigator in the maintenance and integration of multiple research projects which share participants among ongoing clinical trials of the Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center. Responsibilities include setting task expectations and structure for the protocol staff and research assistants, assisting in recruitment of study participants, assuring retention of participants to the parent studies, and serving as a contact person for study participants, other RADC coordinators and Investigators. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Has a thorough knowledge of the study to ensure adherence to all aspects of the study protocol. Serves as a resource person to the study staff including coordinators, Investigators, clinicians and research assistants.
Develops and maintains an organized, well-labeled regulatory and patient-source file(s) for study materials (e.g., participant charts, protocols, visit forms, correspondence, and other pertinent material).
Attends Investigator, site initiation, and other training meetings and trains other staff members in appropriately following the protocol procedures.
Assists the Principal Investigator and Research Study Coordinators in following all study participants and in the recruitment of additional participants.
Schedules the participants and/or sites for assessments by the protocol staff.
Sets task expectations and structure for the protocol staff.
Responsible for data completion and organization and for resolving queries.
Maintains systems for participation tracking and correspondence; creates and interprets reports regarding progress of study.
Assists study monitors with auditing of study procedures.
Assists the Research Study Coordinator with tracking completed events to ensure appropriate sponsor billing and collections.
Coordinates staff schedule along with other project coordinators from other ongoing studies to ensure no scheduling conflicts.
May administer neuropsychological and physical function testing to participants as needed by the protocol.
May collect blood samples and assists in processing samples for further storage, testing, and distribution.
Assists other project coordinators and Principal Investigators in ensuring the success of the entire Section of Patient-Oriented Research portfolio of studies.
Performs other duties as determined by the Medical Director of the Clinic, the Principal Investigator, and the Research Study Supervisor.
Position Qualifications Include :
Bachelor's Degree in a social science preferred
Research coordination experience preferred
Proficiency in word processing and computer generated documents/reports required; proficiency in Microsoft Access or Excel preferred.
Knowledge of data recording and procedures in clinical studies desirable
Bilingual in English and Spanish desired
Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills required
Excellent organizational skills and ability to use one's time efficiently with only minimal direction required
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Must be responsible and self-motivated
Some off-site travel required. Access to an automobile in good working condition
